Darren Huckerby opened the scoring for United in the twenty-eighth minute but Fredrik Westman equalized for the home side three minutes later but Lee Bowyer restored United's lead when he added a second five minutes before the half-time whistle. Six minutes into the second half Goran Nicolajev levelled the scores once more, but Ian Harte edged United ahead once more in the sixty-third minute. Alan Smith made the score 4-2 in the seventieth minute and Matthew Jones made the game safe four minutes later. Daniel Gadea scored the home teams third goal with two minutes left on the clock, but Leeds were out of sight.
